First, what are RSS feeds?

Instead of checking websites (or even individual documents on the web) for updates, let News feeds alert you automatically. Or, alert your customers!

  • RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication
  • RSS allows you to syndicate your website content
  • RSS defines an easy way to share and view headlines and content
  • RSS is often called a News feed or RSS feed

Why use RSS?
RSS was designed to show selected data. Without RSS, website visitors will have to check your website daily for new updates. Or, if it's a document that you're updating regularly, such as a daily breakfast special PDF file, your customers will have to guess as to when you've updated the document. This may be too time-consuming for many users. With an RSS feed they can check your site faster using an RSS Aggregator or "Reader" (a site or program that gathers and sorts out RSS feeds). The latest web browsers even have a built in RSS Reader.

FREE Website Advice Let us demonstrate -
Lets say you want to alert customers whenever you update website content, such as new recipes, new products, the latest TV sports schedule, upcoming events, timely discounts, etc., or even a particular document available from your website, such as the daily breakfast special or FREE "Tip of the Week", what do we do?

In the past you'd "Send them an email." The problem is that we're so overwhelmed with emails these days that often your important email isn't read.

But what if your customers had a way to retrieve new information about your website as soon as it's available without having to continuously check your website for something new or check their email, and at their convenience? That's what an RSS Aggregator, such as Google Reader does, and to make it even simpler an RSS news reader may even be built right into your web browser. If you see a tab (often right next to your Favorites tab) for "Feeds", that's it.

Once your customers Subscribe to your Feed (it's really a request to receive updates), then whenever they check their Feeds if you have an update, the Reader alerts them. How cool is that?

No matter when or where, as soon as your customers check their Feeds, if you have new information to share, they know! It's that simple!
